he First Downtown History Walk!
The walk is mainly a loop between Union Station to City Hall with stops along Front Street, the Courthouse, Soule, Weidmanns, Dumont Plaza, Threefoot, and Doughboy Monument.
You may pickup maps showing story locations at any storytelling stop, especially Dumont Plaza where there will be an information table setup corner of 22nd Ave and 5th Street (across from MSU Riley). As well maps are available at Weidmanns and Threefoot Hotel prior to tour. HUBS from United Way tour guides on site for direction and questions but it is an-on-your-own tour. Start wherever you want, see as many stories as you like and stay to see a story twice if you want. Ideally the stories should start at fifteen minute intervals but not guaranteed. For those who desire shorter walk time, park at Dumont Plaza and walk a short distance to hear six stories in that area, drive and park at City Hall for six more and a special greeting from Mayor Jimmie Smith , then to Union Station/Courthouse/Soule/Front Street area for eight additional story stops. The tour is free and brought to you by a partnership between Rose Hill Storytellers and the City of Meridian. The organizers have worked diligently to bring an unforgettable event uplifting the City of Meridian and our exciting, courageous history. Bring the children. We, Meridianites, must tell our documented stories of history to the next generation so that they will tell their children and grandchildren. For more information call 601-479-2483 (Anne McKee) or Craig Hitt at Meridian Community Development. Event Page |
